JB's "Frankenstein in Hiroshima"

This is the cover of the CD featuring "Necromantik" director Jörg Buttgereit's radioplay homage to Toho's giant monster movies: "Frankenstein in Hiroshima". It's based on Honda's "Frankenstein conquers the world", one of the most ridiculous and entertaining movies ever. I used Buttgereit's actual face as a template for the illustration (with the cover of Famous Monsters #39 in mind) and recreated some vintage advertising material mimiking a German release of the movie for the CD inlay card as well.

Anolis Film released the radioplay as an CD extra for some DVD release not long ago. This is the CD label...

The "What If" movie poster ...

... and some lobby cards.

Harryhausen's Homunculus

"The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" featured this little critter, basically the 1001 Arabians nights version of the stool pigeon: The Homunculus. The eyes and ears of the evil Grand Vizier of Marabia were sculpted by Joe Laudati, a specialist when it comes to Stop-Motion Creatures. Its 1:1 scale and was done in the late 90ties of the past century .... did I mention it's quite rare?

Grand Moff Tarkin ...

"Governor Tarkin. I should have expected to find you holding Vader's leash. I detected your foul stench when I was brought on board."

A lineart made with fine liners depicting Peter Cushing as the famous Star Wars villain. Done sometime in the 90's, I rediscovered it while spring cleaning one of my drawers.... stay tuned for more "finds"!

DER FLUCH - "Village of the Damned"

Here is the unaltered Cover artwork of the new cd/record by the legendary, infamous german Gothic Band "Der Fluch"  (founded loooong before Goth was hip and trendy...). The visuals are based on the classic Sci-Fi/Horror movie "Village of the Damned"  It's the favorite movie of singer/band leader Deutscher W. and is also the title of the new album. The release as a full size vinyl record as well was for me the icing on the cake. CD covers are just too small, aren't they?

The collaboration with the band was a good one, unfortunatly the typography done by the record label could have been better. And on top they wrote my name wrong on the credits. Get your copy here. Painted with acrylics on cardboard, no digital crap.

Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, before I tell you any more, I'm going to show you the greatest thing your eyes have ever beheld. He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive - a show to gratify your curiosity. Ladies and gentlemen, look at Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World!!!"

One of my all-time favorite movies ( and GK subjects). This is the wonderful 3-D rendering of the movie poster (original see below) by James Groman and released by Webbhead Enterprises as a model kit a few years ago. I did some photoshopping and recreated the poster just for fun, using an photo of the New York skyline taken on top of the Empire State Building in 2005.

Actually the poster artist took some artistic license regarding the scale of Ann Darrow and the biplane: She seems nearly as big as the ill fated aircraft....

Dracula vs. Van Helsing (in 1930)

Count Dracula: Van Helsing.
[Van Helsing turns to face Count Dracula]
Count Dracula: Now that you have learned what you have learned, it would be well for you to return to your own country.

Van Helsing: I prefer to remain and protect those whom you would destroy.
Count Dracula: You are too late. My blood now flows through her veins. She will live through the centuries to come, as I have lived.
Van Helsing: Should you escape us, Dracula. We know how to save Miss Mina's soul if not her life. Count Dracula: If she dies by day. But I shall see that she dies by night.
Van Helsing: And I will have Carfax Abbey torn down, stone by stone, excavated a mile around. I will find your earth-box and drive that stake through your heart.

Count Dracula: Come here.
[Dracula raises his hand to hypnotise Van Helsing]
Count Dracula:
Come here.
[Van Helsing takes three hypnotised steps towards Dracula but soon steps back, resisting Dracula's hypnotic power over him]
Count Dracula: Your will is strong, Van Helsing.

[Van Helsing reaches out for his crucifix as Dracula looms toward him]
Count Dracula: More wolfbane?
Van Helsing: More effective than wolfbane, Count.
Count Dracula: Indeed.
[Dracula lunges towards Van Helsing. Van Helsing holds up the crucifix. Dracula snarls and turns away.]

Dr. Van Helsing meets his arch nemesis Count Dracula as depicted in the 1930's movie version of "Dracula" starring Bela Lugosi and Edward Van Sloan. This wonderful garage kit was sculpted by Jeff Yeagher for "Tower of London" Productions in the UK. Its still available here.

Captain Berlin vs. Hitler - Die Berlin Premiere!

Programmhinweis in eigener Sache....

CAPTAIN BERLIN VERSUS HITLER!
Fr - 24.04. - 22:00
CENTRAL Kino
Rosenthaler Str. 39
10178 Berlin

Telefon: 030/28 59 99 73

Just in diesem Moment greift Captain Berlin ein.

Stay tuned for more Infos!

Bela Lugosi - Matinee Idol....

Bela Lugosi painted in the way he prefered his own silver screen image: Matinee Idol. Hollywood producers disagreed and turned him into a boogeyman...
Again, Acrylics on cardboard.
